Its ane- character abbreviation is "?" (pinyin: liao), a name taken frae the Liao River that flowes throu the province. "Ning" means "peace". ^[3] The modren province wis established in 1907 as Fengtian province (奉天 pinyin : Fengti?n; Postal map spellin : Fengtien) an the name wis chyngit tae Liaoning in 1929. Unner the Japanese puppet Manchukuo regime, the province revertit tae its 1907 name, but the name Liaoning wis restored in 1945.
