The areliest schuil nar Cargenbridge was Doweel schuil, apened at the stert o the echteent century. The Rev. William Somervell (died 1698), meenister o
Troqueer
parish, left siller tae stert the schuil. Thon became Drumsleet, a twa-dominie schuil. Baith Drumsleet an the ane-dominie Whinnyhill schuil wir made redundant in 1959 whan Cargenbrig secondary and primary schuil apened. The biggin, described in 1962 as a "very modern school", wis apened in October by the Earl of Galloway.
