The CW Network Unveils A Seven-Night Primetime Schedule

Now under majority control of the nation’s No. 1 owner of broadcast TV stations, The CW on Thursday unveiled its first seven-night 2024-25 primetime schedule, and the changes Nexstar Media Group have brought to the network included the continued expansion of “CW Sports.”

Indeed, CW Sports is getting a boost, with the network debuts of WWE NXT, Pac-12 college football, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series among the highlights the Burbank, Calif.-based team are sharing as Upfront Week concludes.

For Nexstar, client dinners with key marketers and The CW executives was the preferred method of connecting with potential advertising clients, as The CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz commented,?“The Fall 2024 season is another leap forward in the bold transformation of The CW Network, as we continue building a media brand with broadcast at its core.”

The fall schedule features a new “game night” featuring the series? Trivial Pursuit? and? Scrabble,? hosted by LeVar Burton and Raven-Symone, respectively.

Most notably are the lack of returning series as part of a cost-control initiative under Nexstar. While one scripted series, “Sullivan’s Crossing,” is back, the other is preparing for its final season, “Superman & Lois.”

There are two new scripted series: The Sophie Turner-helmed “Joan,” and “The Librarians: The Next Chapter.”

Mid-season entries were also shared, as The CW will debut the new procedural comedic drama “Good Cop/Bad Cop,” starring “Gossip Girl” actress Leighton Meester; and “Sherlock & Daughter,” a mystery thriller with David Thewlis and Dougray Scott.

While The CW is America’s fifth major broadcast network and today reaches 100% of U.S. television households, it faces an August 31 disappearance from the Detroit market, as WMYD-20 will be dropping the network as part of an effort at The E.W. Scripps Co. to establish “baby regional sports networks.” This leaves Adell Broadcasting’s WADL-38 as the only possible home. However, station owner Kevin Adell will only allow The CW to appear on his station via an LMA with Nexstar that gives him 80% of the $75 million sale price agreed to in the conditionally agreed to sale of WADL-TV to Mission Broadcasting, which is barred by the FCC from placing The CW on the station.
