- These categories are used to track, build and organize lists of pages needing "attention
en masse
" (for example, pages using deprecated syntax), or that may need to be edited at someone's earliest convenience.
- These categories also serve to aggregate members of several lists or sub-categories into a larger, more efficient list (
discriminated by classifications
).

This is a Wikipedia maintenance category.
This category is automatically populated by the template
shortcut
and its sister templates, like the white box you see to the right. Pages that feed the first parameter to those boxes in the wrong way are put in this category. This is so we can easily find those pages and fix them.
The most common fixes that need to be done are:
- The shortcut (the redirect page) has not yet been created. If that is the case you see a red link in the shortcut box.
WP:A
– Should be changed to
WP:A
WP:A<br>WP:B
– Should be changed to
WP:A
Chappy84
– Should be changed to
User_talk:Chappy84
That is, don't use brackets

around the parameters. And don't use
<br>
tags, instead feed each shortcut as a separate parameter to the template. User page shortcuts need either
User:
or
User_talk:
in front of the username parameter.
Subcategories that get listed here are not subcategories in the normal sense. Instead they happen to use a shortcut box in the wrong way and thus need fixing too.
If some case is too tricky or a page is protected so you can't edit it, don't worry. More experienced editors and admins will work through the cases that get left in this category.
MediaWiki runs updates of category listings (as the one you see below) as a low priority job. Thus if the servers are very busy it can take some days before a page is removed from the list below even though the page has been fixed. But normally it is removed within an hour.
Sometimes you need to
purge
a page to see your change of a shortcut box and to get rid of this category from the bottom of a page. This is mostly needed when the shortcut box is on a "header subpage" that is transcluded onto another page.
The reason we added this detection and error reporting was that we have added new functionality to the shortcut boxes, but pages that feed the first parameter to the boxes in the wrong way break that functionality.
For more about all this see the
talk page
of this category, and
