With the arrival of early summer, a charming bird known for its nocturnal activities has perched on branches at Beijing's Summer Palace, enjoying the clear weather alongside tourists. The oriental scops owl, a member of the owl family Strigidae, is found throughout China and also inhabits various parts of Europe, Africa, Central Asia, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. It resides in broad-leaved forests and mixed-terrain forests from the mountainous areas to plains. The oriental scops owl is now listed as a second-level protected animal in China.
