U.S. Senator of New York and the Senate Majority Leader
Chuck Schumer, a New York-based politician, holds the esteemed position of Senate Majority Leader for the Democratic Party. His political journey began in 1975 when he was elected as a member of the New York State Assembly. Notably, he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from New York from 1981 to 1999. In 1998, Schumer was elected to the Senate, where he currently serves as the senior U.S. Senator from New York, marking his remarkable fifth term and making him the longest-serving senator from the state.
As a member of the Democratic Party, Schumer has led the Senate Democratic Caucus since 2017 and assumed the role of Senate Majority Leader in 2021. He served as the Senate's minority leader from 2017 to 2021, culminating in his appointment as Senate Majority Leader in 2021.
