Solanum tuberosum [1] est species plantarum florentium familiae Solanacearum . Planta tuber amylosum producit, papas seu patata appellatum, inter victualia ordinandum.

Quod tuber "donum omnium utilissimum" fuisse "a Novo mundo ad Vetus oblatum" dixit abbas Rozier saeculo XVIII exeunte: "Modus patatarum accommodandarum optimus hic est: tuberibus iam coctis, superficie paulo tostis, immittitur butyrum recens, sal, herbas aromaticas concisas". [2]
