ゲ?ムは ロサンゼルス で生まれた。育ったのは、ギャンググル?プである クリップス のテリトリ?として知られている、カリフォルニア州コンプトンのサンタナ?ブロックという地域だが、成長してからは?立するグル?プの ブラッズ のメンバ?となった。ちなみに、ゲ?ムというニックネ?ムは祖母が名付けた。5?のころに姉に?する暴行で父が起訴され、それがきっかけでカリフォルニアの カ?ソン で、8年間里親の家族と生活、13?の時に母と復?した。コンプトン高校を卒業後、 ワシントン州立大? にバスケットボ?ルの ??金 で入?。そこで ドラッグ ?ディ?ラ?でひと儲け考えたが、ドラッグの取引に失敗し 2001年 に 拳銃 で5ヶ所?たれ、3日間 昏睡 ?態になった。その病床で ラッパ? として成功する?にいろいろな アルバム を?き漁る。

2006年に50セントとの確執からアフタ?マスを離?し、 ゲフィン に移籍。2006年11月14日、2ndアルバムの『Doctor's Advocate』をリリ?ス。ドクタ??ドレ?のことに?して、「相?わらず尊敬しているし、仲が??になっているわけではない」と本人は語っており、タイトルも「ドクタ?（ドレ?）の支持者」となっているが、2ndアルバムにドレ?のプロデュ?ス曲は??されていない。しかし、彼が尊敬する ナズ の『Hustlers featuring The Game and Marsha Ambrosius』はドレ?がプロデュ?スしている。

2008年8月26日、自身にとっての3枚目のアルバム『LAX』リリ?スした。『LAX』を最後にラッパ?として引退すると宣言していたが、後日ライブにて4枚目のアルバムを制作中であると明かした。
