Jan Niecisław Ignacy Baudouin de Courtenay (13 Maret 1845 – 3 November 1929) adalah seorang linguis dan Slavis asal Polandia , [1] yang dikenal karena membuat teori foneme dan alternasi-alternasi fonetik . Sepanjang sebagian besar masa hidupnya, Baudouin de Courtenay bekerja di universitas-universitas Kekaisaran Rusia : Kazan (1874?1883), Dorpat (kini Tartu , Estonia ) (1883?1893), Krakow (1893?1899) di Austria-Hungaria , dan St. Petersburg (1900?1918). [2] Pada 1919?1929, ia menjadi profesor di Universitas Warsawa .
