(Cole, Natalie; born Stephanie Maria Cole; popular singer, rhythm and blues musician / singer; born 06 February 1950 in Los Angeles, California, United States; her musical tastes extended from Billie Holiday to the Beatles; she attended the best private schools and graduated (1968) from the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts; while studying child psychology at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst she continued to sing and perform in a local band; after earning a BA degree, she debuted as a solo artist in 1973, and in 1975 she received a recording contract from Capitol Records, her father's label; her first album, Inseparable, was released in 1975 and earned her two Grammy Awards and a gold record; received numerous awards - the Soul Train Best Single (Female) Award, 1987; three NAACP Image Awards, 1992; two American Music Awards, 1992; and an honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music, 1995; in 2000 she wrote her autobiography entitled Angel on my shoulder and also released her Greatest Hits, Volume I album)
