(McFerrin, Bobby; jazz musician, jazz singer; born 11 March 1950 in New York, New York, United States; studied composing and arranging at Sacramento State University; performed as a popular singer in San Francisco; joined the Hendricks Family Singers; won a Down Beat citation for the best male vocalist (1985); won a Grammy for his interpretation of Thelonious Monk's title tune for the movie "Round Midnight" (1986) and a Grammy for arranging a version of Dizzy Gillespie's “A Night in Tunisia”; Simple Pleasures (1988), contained his original song, “Don't Worry, Be Happy” which became an immense hit and made him an international superstar; won his tenth Grammy for a jazz album done with the pianist Chick Corea (1992); conducted the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the Cleveland Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the London Philharmonic; was awarded the George Peabody Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Music in America (2002))
