(Doe, Samuel Kanyon; military leader and twenty-first president of Liberia; born 1951 in Tuzon, Liberia; earned a BA degree from the University of Liberia (1988); enlisted into the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL); headed military junta, the Peoples' Redemption Council (PRC); his route to power was through a bloody military coup d'etat staged in (1980) resulting in the overthrow of the government of President William R. Tolbert Jr.; dissolved the PRC, replacing it with an Interim National Assembly (INA), and named himself president of the INA 1984; sworn in as the first president of the Second Republic on 6 January 1986; died in 1990 in Monrovia, Libreria)
