The Spanish feature Robot Dreams, which has racked up a host of awards including multiple Goyas, the European Film Award, and the Annecy Contrechamp, in addition to an Oscar nomination, took home the prize for best animated feature, as well as the award for sound design and original music. The Pablo Berger-directed film opens in New York on May 31st, before expanding across the U.S. in June.
The prize for animation series also went to a Spanish production: the musical preschool series Jasmine & Jambo directed by Silvia Cortes and produced by Barcelona-based Teidees Audiovisuals in co-production with Corporacio Catalana de Mitjans Audiovisuals. The series won the same prize at the Quirinos last year for its first season. The series stars two characters with a passion for music, relating it to life and emotions, and explaining musical concepts.
Spain dominated at the 7th edition of the Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards, which were presented on Saturday in San Cristobal de La Laguna, Tenerife.
