John Hicks

Sir John Richard Hicks ( 8. aprill 1904 Warwickshire , Warwick ? 20. mai 1989 Gloucestershire , Blockley ) oli Briti majandusteadlane .

Ta sai 1972 . aastal koos Kenneth Arrow 'ga Nobeli majandusauhinna .

Hicks sundis ajakirjaniku Edward Hicksi ja tema naise Dorothy Catherine'i (sundinud Stephens) pojana.

Ta oppis 1917 ?1922 Bristolis Cliftoni kolled?is ja 1922 ? 1827 Oxfordi ulikoolis . Esialgu oppis ta matemaatikat , huvitudes uhtlasi kirjandusest ja ajaloost. 1923 loodi Oxfordi ulikoolis uus eriala "filosoofia, poliitika ja majandus" ning Hicks laks sinna oppima. Ta lopetas selle eriala keskparast tulemustega, oma sonul oskanata uhtki opitud ainetest pohjalikult.

1926 ?1935 pidas ta loenguid Londoni Majanduskoolis . Esialgu kirjeldas ta oma teadustoodes toojou okonoomikat ja toostussuhteid, hiljem kaldus analuutilise kasitluse poole ? seda aitas tema tugev ettevalmistus matemaatikas. 1935 ?1938 pidas ta loenguid Cambridge'i ulikoolis , 1938 ?1946 oli ta Manchesteri ulikooli professor. Manchesteri professorina kirjutas ta oma peamised teadustood. 1946 tuli ta tagasi Oxfordi, kus tootas kuni emeriteerumiseni ja isegi parast seda.
