Damyang
(潭陽) is a county in
South Jeolla
. Damyang has beautiful bamboo forests and wide plains.
During the Joseon Dynasty, many pavilions were built to enjoy the landscapes, and poems and epics were written in the buildings. These activities were described as
pungryu
, which means literally "flow of wind." Jeong Cheol (1536?1594), a Korean poet and politician stayed and studied during his youth, and wrote his early epic,
Seongsan Byeolgok
in this town.
Juknokwon Bamboo Garden
The name "Damyang" was first used in the Goryeo Dynasty.
When he reached Damyang, Dojo of "Shinjeungdonggukyeoji Seungram" changed its name to "Chuseong-gun" in Silla. In the 14th year of King Seongjong of Goryeo (995), Damyang was renamed to its current name and included in Naju. In the 1st year of King Fair (Jeongjong)'s accession (1398), it was promoted to Bu because it was the hometown of Queen Kim. In the 13th year of King Taejong (1413), it was established as Dohobu according to the example.

Damyang has long been the main producer of bamboo. It has beautiful natural scenery such as Juknokwon, Korea's representative tourist destination, Metasequoia Road, Gwanbangjerim, and various cultural properties such as Soswaewon, Sikyeongjeong, and Songgangjeong.
It is located in the northernmost part of Jeollanam-do and has convenient transportation networks such as Honam Expressway, Gwangju-Daegu Expressway and national roads, and eco-high-tech Damyang General Industrial Complex. Damyang is a garden that preserves nature, history, culture, and traditions well, and is promoting sustainable development through the specialization strategy of Damyang-like and ecological city policies as the main production area of the eco-friendly agricultural products.

You can see many taxis waiting for passengers in front of the bus terminal. Knowing a taxi driver's cell phone number or a call taxi agency's telephone number is useful. When you call a taxi driver, you don't need to know the address where you are, but you should know the name of the place where you are. Like other regions in Korea, drivers aren't likely to understand English. Price starts at \3,300.
There are no public bicycles in Yang, but bicycles can be rented free of charge at Damyang-gun Office or Damyang-eup Office, and bicycles can be rented for \5,000 per hour at Gwanbangjerim. Damyang's main tourist attraction is close enough to ride a bicycle.

If you go to Damyang, Jeollanam-do, you can see noodle restaurants lined up along the Yeongsangang River. What began to appear one by one more than 50 years ago has now become a famous food street in Damyang. There is an outdoor table from the beginning to the end of the noodle street, so you can enjoy a generous amount of noodles at a low price while looking at the friendly Yeongsangang River scenery. Damyang Noodles Street is good to visit together because it is near Juknokwon, which boasts the blue color of the four seasons, and Gwanbangjerim, which is good to enjoy the seasonal atmosphere
