History

In 1886, the
Great Northern Railway
laid tracks through Willow City on the way to
Bottineau
. The community's first election took place in 1890, and the city was incorporated in 1906.

of 2010, there were 163 people, 84 households, and 47 families living in the city. The

living together, 7.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 44.0% were non-families. 40.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 19.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.94 and the average family size was 2.60.
The median age in the city was 51.2 years. 16% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.1% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 17.1% were from 25 to 44; 34.3% were from 45 to 64; and 26.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 54.0% male and 46.0% female.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 23.1% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 19.5% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 30.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 46 years. For every 100 females, there were 106.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.4 males.
