Velke ?ernoseky is a municipality and village in Litom??ice District in the Usti nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic . It has about 500 inhabitants.

Geography [ edit ]

Velke ?ernoseky is located about 4 kilometres (2 mi) west of Litom??ice and 14 km (9 mi) south of Usti nad Labem . It lies in the Central Bohemian Uplands . The highest point is the hill Stra?i?t? at 362 metres (1,188 ft) above sea level. The municipality is situated on the right bank of the Elbe River.

The first written mention of Velke ?ernoseky is in the foundation deed of the Litom??ice Chapter from 1218. [2]

Vineyards

Since the 12th century, Velke ?ernoseky is known for viticulture . It belongs to the Litom??icka wine sub-region and is one of the northernmost wine-growing places in Europe. [5]

Sights [ edit ]

The Church of Saint Nicholas was built in the Gothic style in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. [7]

Velke ?ernoseky Castle is a simple Baroque castle in the centre of the village, built in the 17th century on the site of the former fortress. [2] Today it is used as a winery and for accommodation. [8]
