Value? [ edit ]

What is the value of this template. It seems like the function here is already served by Category:IEC standards . ~ Kvng ( talk ) 14:02, 6 April 2017 (UTC) [ reply ]

  • Reply - @ Kvng : , per User:Secondarywaltz at this link , "The whole purpose of a navbox is to be inserted in all the related articles to allow you to navigate between them. A list just does not allow you to come and go and jump between them. This is exactly what a navbox is for." -- Jax 0677 ( talk ) 14:55, 6 April 2017 (UTC) [ reply ]
@ Jax 0677 : are you sure your link is correct? I couldn't find any discussion about Template:List of International Electrotechnical Commission standards at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion . ~ Kvng ( talk ) 17:56, 6 April 2017 (UTC) [ reply ]
  • Reply - @ Kvng : , yes, I am sure, if you look carefully, you will see the quote. -- Jax 0677 ( talk ) 19:16, 6 April 2017 (UTC) [ reply ]
@ Jax 0677 : OK I see that. I was expecting something pertaining to this particular template. I am unfamiliar with what's an appropriate navbox topic and was hoping to learn. Is there some policy essay somewhere? ~ Kvng ( talk ) 01:24, 7 April 2017 (UTC) [ reply ]
Summary: Although many navboxes (appear to) duplicate organizational functionality provided by categories, both are valid and they coexist. ~ Kvng ( talk ) 19:25, 9 April 2017 (UTC) [ reply ]
