Just created a template for ease of navigation, esp for those unfamiliar to the series. I know it's not all that pretty yet but this is my first Template and any help with polish would be greatly appreciated.

Am I the only one that thinks the new template color is really jarring and doesn't fit in with the articles? If so I'll leave it be but otherwise I'm reverting it.

- I agree; the contrast is jarring, and the links in the red portion are difficult to read if you've clicked them in the past. I prefer the purple, which blends nicely with the page.

- My guess is that he just went ahead and changed it without asking for any input because it matches better with his
Aegon I
article's color scheme regardless of how it effects the other twenty or so ASOIAF pages. Just guessing.

We should not be linking to the family tree templates from this navigation box. We need to be keeping our readers within mainspace. Directing them away from mainspace causes
WP:SURPRISE
/
WP:EGG
issues and doesn't allow for full
WP:BIDIRECTIONALity
. I believe all the tree templates are included at other
articles
linked from here, so there's no need to have them linked twice. In fact, I think there's probably a case to delete these single use templates after substitution. --

- From which navigation box should we link the family tree templates? Only way a reader can access for example:
Template:Family tree of House Baratheon
is from this template. Removing it means that it basically don't exist. I don't understand how it could be as you said confusing or a surprise for readers and also why did you keep house lannister, but not house baratheon? -

- We shouldn't be linking to templates from a navigation box.
{{
Family tree of House Baratheon
}}
is transcluded at multiple articles linked from this navbox (
Robert Baratheon
,
List of A Song of Ice and Fire characters
,
Renly Baratheon
,
Stannis Baratheon
, etc.) so it is already visible.
Family tree of House Lannister
is in article mainspace, not template space, so my rationale doesn't apply. --

- Even though I myself probably added some or all of these to the nav box, Robsinden's argument is convincing and I agree with the removal. I don't believe I have seen templates linked within nav templates in this manner anywhere else. It's enough that they are in their appropriate articles. The difference with the Lannister, Targaryen and Stark trees is that they are in mainspace and are not templates, primarily because they are too large to be sensibly incorporated into articles (hence the abbreviated template versions we use in the related character articles).?
