The Comandante Manuel Fajardo Surgical Clinical Hospital was built at the site of the Hospital Nuestra Senora de las Mercedes, founded in 1886.

There is also a Cira Garcia International Clinic that serves only foreign patients.

The Havana Psychiatric Hospital was formerly the General House for the Insane of Cuba. It has also gone by the name of Mazorra.
