The incident took place during maintenance taxi checks at INS Garuda. A Chetak helicopter was involved in a ground accident, which led to the death of the ground crew member.

Response

The
Indian Navy
issued a statement expressing its condolences and sorrow over the loss of life. Chief of Indian Navy, Admiral R Hari Kumar, and all Navy personnel mourned the death of the ground crew member, identified as Yogendra Singh.

In the statement, Admiral Kumar said that he and "all personnel of Indian Navy mourn the loss of life & pay tribute to Yogendra Singh” and extend their “heartfelt condolences” to his family.
A Board of Inquiry was ordered to investigate the cause of the accident, as per the Navy spokesperson.
