Anbernic is a Chinese manufacturer of handheld retrocomputing devices. These devices typically run a version of Android or Linux and allow users to play historical video games through software emulation .

Its systems have often met with acclaim, considered among the best retrocomputing devices released from 2020 to 2022. [1] [2] [3] Due to their popularity, a number of open source projects provide custom firmware for the devices, adding additional features and extended support. These include ArkOS [4] , AmberElec [5] and ROCKNIX [6] .

The Anbernic trademark was registered in 2017 by the Shenzhen -based manufacturer Shenzhen YangLiMing Electronic Technology Co., Ltd [7] as the company released their first handheld, the Retro Game (RG). [8] The brand became prominent after releasing a string of popular retrocomputing devices including the RG351, RG353 and RG35XX.
