    Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa on Monday directed all district electoral officers to keep all counting personnel safe from the scorching heat and provide them with freshly made food on June 4 when the counting for the Lok Sabha polls will take place. There must be adequate arrangements of cold drinking water, jaggery, and glucose at the counting venue, it said, adding, light and fresh food must be made available at the counting place.

    Lok Sabha Election 2024: Ahead of counting, Odisha Cabinet recommends Guv for dissolution of assembly

    The Odisha Cabinet on Monday recommended Governor Raghubar Das for dissolution of the 16th legislative assembly, a day ahead of the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha and assembly polls. The cabinet informed the governor about completion of the BJD government's tenure and recommended dissolution of the assembly before the counting exercise, an official said. According to the constitutional provision, the state cabinet should pass a resolution to dissolve the assembly after the declaration of election results.

    Lok Sabha Elections Exit Polls 2024 Live: EC revises Punjab voter turnout figure to 62.80 per cent

    • A voter turnout of 62.80 per cent has been recorded in the 13 Lok Sabha Constituencies in Punjab, which went to the polls on June 1 in the seventh and final phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, said the state Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C
    • It was the latest revised voter turnout from 55.65 per cent reported on Saturday. However, the revised figure is still lower than the 65.96 per cent voter turnout registered during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
    • The Chief Electoral Officer said that as per the data received late on June 1 night, Bathinda has recorded the highest voter turnout of 69.36 per cent.
    • Amritsar recorded 56.06 per cent, Anandpur Sahib 61.98 per cent, Faridkot 63.34 per cent, Fatehgarh Sahib 62.53 per cent, Ferozepur 67.02 per cent, Gurdaspur 66.67 per cent and Hoshiarpur 58.86 per cent.
    • He further apprised that 59.70 per cent polling has been recorded in Jalandhar, 62.55 per cent in Khadoor Sahib, 60.12 per cent in Ludhiana, 63.63 per cent in Patiala and 64.63 per cent in Sangrur.
    • The votes cast will be counted on June 4 when the results will be known.

    Lok Sabha Elections Exit Polls 2024 Live: BJP worker killed in Bengal post-poll violence, TMC denies role in it

    • A BJP worker was killed by a group of men in West Bengal's Nadia district in post-poll violence, with the saffron party pointing fingers at the ruling Trinamool Congress. The TMC, however, claimed that the killing was a fallout of a family feud.
    • Police sources said the incident happened at Kaliganj in the northern part of the district when BJP worker, Hafijur Sheikh, was playing carrom with others on Saturday night.
    • It is alleged that 10-12 people came on motorbikes and first shot Sheikh and then hacked him, killing him on the spot.
    • Local people demonstrated for over two hours and did not allow the police to lift the body. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
    • The BJP's Uttar Nadia unit president Arjun Biswas alleged that TMC goons killed the party worker.
    • District TMC leader Rukbanur Rahman, however, blamed family feud behind the murder and the Trinamool Congress has no role in it.
    • Family members of the deceased demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.

    • Dismissing the predictions of exit poll results which show a favourable outcome for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government saying that these exit polls are not going to counter the "king" who is an "astrologer" as well as a "dictator."
    • In a veiled attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tikait while speaking to reporters on Sunday said, "We have already said that in a country where the king is an astrologer and a dictator, what will the exit polls do? Who is going to counter whatever the king says?"
    • The farmer leader said that if the NDA has set a target of more than 400 seats, it shows that the "planning" for it was already done.
    • "If they were already claiming to win more than 400 seats, it means that the planning was already done," Tikait said.
    • Questioning the Electronic Voting Machines, Tikait said that everything is decided in advance which machine has to go at which place.
    • "I do not understand...where are EVM machines kept? Before the election, they are repaired. Cells and batteries are put in. Whatever alterations are done, everything is done from there. Which machine has to go where and what is the situation at that place is predecided," the farmer leader said.

    • The Congress and its INDIA bloc allies are trying to undermine the integrity of India's electoral process, the BJP alleged on Sunday and urged the Election Commission to prevent any attempts of "violence and unrest" during the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls on June 4.
    • A BJP delegation comprising Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal also urged the poll panel to take cognisance of the "systematic attempts" being made to undermine the electoral process and initiate stringent action against those responsible.
    • The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission (EC) in this regard.
    • "We had to call upon the Election Commission today in light of the repeated attempts by a section of political parties, like the Congress and their INDI alliance partners, and also by certain motivated civil society groups and NGOs who are trying their level best to undermine the integrity of India's electoral process," Goyal told reporters after meeting EC officials.
    • Their efforts against India's "very robust" electoral process are a direct attack on the country's democratic institutions and pose a risk to public order and trust in the electoral system, he said.
    • The BJP delegation urged the EC to ensure enhanced monitoring and security measures are put in place during the counting of votes to prevent "any attempts at violence or unrest".

    • As per the order from the poll body, repolling will be conducted at 61 Kadambagachi Saradar Pada FP School, Room No 2 of 120-Deganga Assembly Constituency in 17 Barasat Parliamentary Constituency and 26 Aaddir Mahal Srichaitanya Bidyapith FP School of 131-Kakdwip Assembly Constituency in 20-Mathurapur (SC) Parliamentary Constituency in West Bengal.
    • "I am directed to state that on the basis of reports received from the concerned RO/the concerned DEO/the Observers of 17-Barasat PC and 20-Mathurapur (SC) PC. regarding poll taken for General Election to Lok Sabha for West Bengal State, 2024, held on 1 June, 2024 and after taking all material circumstances into account, the Commission, hereby declares under sub-section (2) of Section 58 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, that the poll taken on 1 June, 2024 for aforesaid election at the following polling stations (as mentioned in Column 3 of the table below) to be void and appoints 3 June, 2024 as the date and fixes the hours as mentioned in Column (4) of the table below, for taking a fresh poll at the said polling stations in accordance with Commission's instructions contained in paragraphs 13.62 of Chapter XIII of Hand Book for Returning Officer, 2023," the Election Commission said in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal.
    • Clashes broke out between supporters of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Indian Secular Front (ISF) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in various areas of the State in the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on June 1.
    • An alleged clash broke out between Trinamool Congress and BJP workers at Bayarbari in West Bengal's Basirhat amid the seventh and final phase of polling in the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday.
    • A clash also broke out between TMC and BJP workers at Meraganj in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, leaving several people injured.
    • Meanwhile, as West Bengal police went to arrest an alleged accused in Saturday's violence in Basirhat's Sandeshkhali, the local women resisted and a scuffle broke out on Sunday. The police had come to arrest BJP worker Sadhan Nandi.

    Lok Sabha Elections Exit Polls 2024 Live: Remain alert on D-Day, Congress to candidates as it sticks to 295 seat estimate

    • Despite poll predictions favoring the BJP, Congress convened meetings on Sunday with its candidates, state chiefs, and legislature party leaders to reaffirm its belief that the INDIA bloc will secure at least 295 seats and form the government.
    • Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi urged candidates to stay vigilant and implement measures to prevent any "attempts of rigging" on vote counting day. They also provided standard operating procedures for the counting day.
    • In an online interaction with state chiefs from 11 states, Jairam Ramesh found that most dismissed the exit polls, suggesting that Congress and its allies would perform much better than predicted. State units gave optimistic reports of their prospects.
    • After assessing counting day preparations, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence that the INDIA bloc would achieve a comfortable majority with at least 295 seats.
