Description
English: Full-length portrait of a woman in uniform with sword. "Major Pauline Cushman" (written below image). "Major Cushman" (written on reverse side of image). There is a 2 cent stamp on reverse side of image. Pauline Cushman was a Union spy and scout who was captured and sentenced to death by Confederate officials, but was rescued at Shelbyville by Gen. Rosecrans' Army. She was given an honorary title of major and is in uniform posing with a sword in this image.
