Nel 1930 scavando a Pompei nella cantina della Casa del Menandro (I, 10, 4), si e rinvenuta una cassa di legno che conteneva il tesoro della casa, ben 118 pezzi di argenteria (per un totale di 84 kg di argento), oltre a gioielli e monete. Si tratta soprattutto del raffinato servizio da mensa della casa, composto da numerosi argenti per bere (in servizi da due) e per mangiare (in servizi da quattro), ma non manca qualche oggetto da toilette (un paio di specchi, alcuni attingitoi, un'ampolla, ecc.). In 1930, while digging in the cellar of the Casa del Menandro (I, 10, 4) in Pompeii, a wooden chest was found which contained the treasure of the house, as many as 118 pieces of silverware (for a total of 84 kg of silver), as well as jewels and coins. It is above all the refined canteen service of the house, consisting of numerous silverware for drinking (in sets of two) and for eating (in sets of four), but there are also some toilet items (a couple of mirrors, basins, an ampulla, etc.). All the treasure is exhibited in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples: the silverware in a special showcase, while the jewels and coins are in the Numismatic section. The Casa del Menandro in Pompeii, which was being renovated at the time of the eruption, is a stately and grandiose house that belonged to Quintus Poppaeus, of the Poppea family, the wife of Emperor Nero.
