Manchester City
put one hand on the Premier League title with a rather nervy 2-0 victory at
Tottenham
. Following the win, City moved back to the top of the table, two points ahead of Arsenal with a final game to play. After winning three straight Premier League titles, the club is on the verge of making history.
A win against West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday will seal a fourth consecutive Premier League title that will put City on a different pedestal. The Blues achieved immortality last season, winning the treble; the
FA Cup
, the Premier League and
Champions League
.
Although the team came agonisingly close to repeating the feat this term, losing on penalties to
Real Madrid
in the Champions League quarter-final, it’s on track to secure both the Premier League and the FA Cup again.
The game at Tottenham was perhaps the most difficult game the team has played this season for different reasons. But coming out of there victorious means it’s now just a question of finishing the job in front of the home fans on Sunday.
At this point, it will take a collapse of massive proportions for Man City to lose this title by failing to beat West Ham, assuming Arsenal do their own part by beating
Everton
.
It is now City’s title to lose and the team may not need to even be on full throttle to beat West Ham. That’s because David Moyes’s side has been very poor recently. They have won just one of their last seven matches in all competitions.
The Hammers conceded five goals in each of their last away league games, losing 5-2 to Crystal Palace and 5-0 to Chelsea. That’s hardly a team that will cause City problems on their own patch.
Beating Tottenham away in a game with such high stakes shows just how mature and ruthless the team can be in crucial moments.
Although Pep Guardiola will not have the players let their guard down (which is the right thing to do), the title is already at the entrance to the Etihad Stadium trophy cabinet.
The Blues cannot let anything go wrong at this point.
History beckons and the players are ready to step up to the plate and finish the job. Then they can crown another impressive season with FA Cup glory against
Manchester United
.
Come On, City!
Come On, City!!
