Disney star Debby Ryan was arrested for drunk driving last week after she slammed into another car in Los Angeles, an LAPD source confirmed to the Daily News.
The 22-year-old actress was given a field sobriety test by authorities shortly after the accident and was arrested after failing the breathalyzer test.
“She did cooperate,” the source told the News. “She did give a breath sample.”
Ryan, best known as the star of Disney’s “Jessie,” was originally hit with a felony DUI charge, but it was later reduced to a misdemeanor since the other person involved in the accident only suffered minor injuries.
“The (felony reduction) filing decision had nothing to do with the level of impairment,” the source said. “It was because the injuries were relatively minor.”
TMZ reports Ryan registered a .11 blood alcohol content (BAC) during her sobriety test. The legal limit is .08.
Ryan was released the following morning a little before 10 a.m.
A rep for the actress did not immediately return the Daily News’ request for comment.
Ryan later took to Twitter to apologize for disappointing her fans.
“Over the last few days I have had the chance to think about my actions, and I wish I had used better judgement. I recognize that I am a role model and have always worked hard to set a good example for my millions of fans,” she wrote.
“I am so sorry to disappoint everyone,” she continued.
Ryan rose to fame as a teenage as a star on Disney’s “Suite Life on Deck” from 2008 to 2011. She earned even more recognition after landing the leading role on “Jessie,” on which she starred as a small town Texas girl who moves to Manhattan to chase her dreams of becoming an actress.
The show became one of Disney’s most popular series during its four season run from 2011 through last October and featured notable guest stars including NBA stars Chris Paul and Chris Bosh, comedian Adam Sandler and First Lady Michelle Obama.
In addition to her small screen success, Ryan has appeared in several movies, including “Muppets Most Wanted” in 2014.
