The Cleveland Indians have claimed right-handed pitcher Tyler Cloyd off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies, according to an? announcement from the team . To make room on the 40-man roster, left-hander Clay Rapada was designated for assignment.

Cloyd, 26, split the season between Philadelphia and Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and struggled as a starter at both levels. In thirteen appearances (eleven starts) in the majors, he posted a 2-7 record, 6.56 ERA, 6.1 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 while registering a 5-9 record and 4.71 ERA in 19 minor league starts. In parts of two major league seasons, the former eighteenth round pick is 4-9 with a 5.98 ERA in 19 games (17 starts). He will likely begin next season with Triple-A Columbus, and could be called up as rotation depth once the season gets underway.

Rapada, 32, posted two scoreless innings in the final weeks of the season after being called up by the Indians at the beginning of September. After beginning the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees organization, he opted out of his contract in June and signed with Cleveland nine days later, posting a 1.12 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 24 innings in the final three months of the season with Columbus.
