In 2013,
Janelle Monae
released her critically acclaimed album
The Electric Lady
and since then has been going non-stop. She
played some high-profile Super Bowl gigs
, voiced a part in the animated film
Rio 2
, joined Outkast on stage during a few of their recent comeback gigs and was a recent recipient of an Achievement in the Arts from the Harvard College Women's Center. But that hasn't slowed down her creative process by any means.
"I was designed to do this," she told Fuse's Esteban Serrano backstage at
Bonnaroo
this past weekend. "I think the creator designed me to be an artist. Becoming this character that I don't know...I don't know how it happens, it just happens."
At the Manchester, Tenn. festival she performed her own set as well as
sat in with Skrillex during the big Super Jam
. "I love jamming and having a good time," she said.
