The Israel Defence Forces said they had rescued four hostages from central Gaza. The hostages were kidnapped from the Nova music festival on October 7th. Shortly after the IDF announcement, Benny Gantz, a member of Israel’s war cabinet and former defence minister, postponed a press conference scheduled for Saturday evening. Mr Gantz had been expected to announce his resignation. Meanwhile, Palestinian authorities said that at least 50 people had been killed by Israeli bombing in central and southern Gaza.

Mette Frederiksen , Denmark’s prime minister, was assaulted in Copenhagen on Friday night, her office said. The man responsible for the attack, which left Ms Frederiksen “shocked”, has been arrested. Roberta Metsola, the president of the European Parliament , called the incident?which happened two days before Denmark votes in the EU election ?“appalling”.
