WASHINGTON — A congressman has announced the first public hearing on the salmonella outbreak that is being blamed on peanut butter.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., said he wants the Feb. 11 hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee to focus on the Georgia peanut processing plant at the center of the investigation, which has led to a recall. More than 500 people, including 12 in Colorado, have gotten sick, and at least eight may have died.
