Description
GHEENS, LOUISIANA is a Cajun community about 30 miles from New Orleans between Raceland and Lockport. It has less than 1000 people, yet every year on Mardi Gras the population increases by over 20,000. What draws them to Gheens? The Cajun Mardi Gras Chase. Trucks filled with teen-aged boys and men dressed as ghouls attack the town bearing switches. They chase the children to "beat the sinful stuff out of them so they can be clean for the lent". The children can either fall to their knees and say "Pardon! Pardon!" or make the Mardi-gras (maskers) chase them, often taunting and daring them to keep on beating them. Far from abuse, these children look forward to this annual festival as "just a very painful game!". This documentary looks at this hundred year tradition and the people who keep it alive and festive in spite of political correctness. "The kids love it. They look forward to it as much as Christmas." Billy Cressionie, Jr. "It's fun getting hit!" Jarrod Brunet.
