Four superstar acts add impressive milestones to their already distinguished careers with new No. 1s on Nielsen BDS-based Billboard airplay charts this week.
Marc Anthony
Anthony collects his 20th No. 1 on Tropical Songs, as “Rain Over Me,” on which he’s featured, rises 4-1. The song marks the first No. 1 on the survey for lead artist
Pitbull

Anthony topped Tropical Songs on his first five tries in 1995-96, beginning with the eight-week No. 1 “Te Conozco Bien.” Until this week, he had last reigned with “Mi Gente” for six weeks in 2007.
“Rain” concurrently leaps 5-1 on Latin Songs (which encompasses airplay on all Latin radio formats), where the track marks Pitbull’s second No. 1 and Anthony’s sixth.
Toby Keith
Keith
likewise
commands Country Songs for a 20th time, as “Made in America” rises 2-1
. The song is his first No. 1 since the similarly patriotic “American Ride” rode to the top two years ago this week.
Like Anthony on Tropical Songs, Keith enjoyed rookie success on Country Songs when his debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” galloped to No. 1 the week of June 5, 1993. From that date on, Keith’s 20 toppers tie him with
Kenny Chesney
,
Alan Jackson
and
George Strait
for second-most No. 1s after only
Tim McGraw
‘s 24.
Good thing Keith decided to release the song.
“About a year and a half ago, me and Bobby Pinson were writing (it) and I said, ‘Man, I might have to put this thing on the back burner for awhile,” Keith
recently told Billboard
. “I’ve got ‘Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue,’ ‘American Soldier,’ I just did ‘American Ride’ … a lot of ‘America’ songs. I thought I should let the last one breathe a little, y’know? I figured (‘Made’) could wait for the next (album).”
After recording the song, however, Keith wisely decided to make it the lead single from “Clancy’s Tavern,” due Oct. 24.
“I was in the booth singing the scratch vocal, and everyone was going, ‘God, what a smash. That is awesome, pal!’ Everyone was high-fiving and carrying on. I wasn’t about to pop everyone’s bubble and say, ‘I ain’t putting it on the album.’
“So I said, ‘Alright, y’all win. Put it on there’.”
Drake
In less than two-and-a-half years, Drake is, when it comes to most No. 1s in Rap Songs history, tied for the best the chart ever had.
Drake earns his 10th No. 1 on the ranking (which launched in Billboard as a sales survey the week of March 11, 1989, and transformed to an airplay-based chart in the June 8, 2002, issue), as “Headlines” lifts 2-1. (

Drake matches Diddy’s record No. 1 sum on Rap Songs
. Diddy rang up 10 Rap Songs rulers between 1996’s Lil’ Kim-fronted “No Time” and 2003’s “Shake Ya Tailfeather,” with

and Murphy Lee.
Drake burst onto Rap Songs with his 15-week debut No. 1 “Best I Ever Had” in 2009, marking the chart’s second-longest reign after Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott’s 18-week run at No. 1 with “Hot Boyz,” featuring Nas, Eve and Q-Tip (1999-2000).
As Drake also appears on the chart’s top three songs for a second consecutive week – he’s featured on
DJ Khaled
‘s “I’m on One” (1-2) and
Lil Wayne
‘s “She Will” (3-3) – he and
50 Cent
(April 2, 2005) are the only acts ever to monopolize the list’s top three positions simultaneously.
Coldplay
The quartet similarly logs its record-tying 10th No. 1 on Triple A, as “Paradise” vaults 7-1.
With the takeover,
Coldplay matches U2 for most No. 1s since the Triple A chart bowed in 1996
. (U2 most recently led the adult alternative list with “Get on Your Boots” in 2009).
At just three chart weeks, “Paradise” equals “Speed of Sound” (2005) and “Violet Hill” (2008) for Coldplay’s quickest rise to No. 1. Notably, the latter two toppers were first singles from Coldplay albums, while “Paradise” manages its No. 1 sprint as a comparatively less-heralded second single from an album. “Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall,” the lead cut from “Mylo Xyloto,” due Oct. 24, reached No. 1 in its fifth frame in July.
