TV anime based on web-linked stuffed animals to premiere in Japan on April 5
The official website for the Japanese broadcaster
TV Osaka
has begun
streaming
a 30-second commercial to preview the new television anime series
based
on
Sanrio
and
Sega
's
Jewelpet
toy
line
. Each
Jewelpet
is a stuffed animal
linked
to the online Web-Gurumi site via a secret password. The 33 animals are named after jewels, such as the Japanese rabbit K?raku ("Ruby"), the Cavalier King Charles spaniel Sapphire ("Sapphy"), and the Persian cat Garnet ("Net"). In the storyline, these pets belonged to magicians in "Jewelland" and can use magic themselves, thanks to their jewel eyes. They study every day to learn how to use magic. The rabbit Ruby accidentally gets sent over to the human world and becomes the partner of a second-year middle school girl named Rinko K?gyoku.
The television anime will premiere in Japan on April 5. It essentially
replaces
Sanrio
's
My Melody
anime
franchise
, which ended on Sunday with the finale of the fourth
My Melody
series,
Onegai My Melody Kirara
.
