Sony PSP launches across Europe

Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP)
Hundreds of gamers queued outside shops to get the new Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP), which was released in the Europe at midnight on Thursday.

Shops across the UK stayed open until the early hours of the morning to mark the launch, and some fans queued for over 12 hours to be first in line.

The hand-held console plays games, films and music, and stores images and browses the web.

Sony hopes to sell at least a million in the UK by Christmas.

Some retailers have already sold out of PSPs through pre-orders.

The gadget has been on sale in the US and Japan for months. It was so popular there that there were none left for Europe, leading to delays which upset some fans.

The console is Sony's first portable games machine.
