The change of name from SMG reflects a focus on the group's TV business

Scottish media company SMG has approved plans to change its name to stv group.

The media firm, which sold Virgin Radio in May, said it wanted to concentrate on its TV channel STV, the ITV station in Central and Northern Scotland.

An extraordinary general meeting agreed the name change along with a plan to buy back up to £40m in stock.

The company also announced that its Pearl & Dean cinema advertising arm had landed a deal to handle the advertising for Showcase Cinemas.

The Pearl & Dean titles will now appear in just under half of UK cinema sites.
